ABSTRACT
In my talk I would like to outline where Linux is currently used in productive environments at our customers and which roles it commonly plays, e.g. what kind of services are the popular ones (File Services, Databases, Networking Infrastructure).
I also will talk about the advantages of Linux and free Software in general for the professional user, but also point at some current disadvantages and limitations and what is being done to work around these limitations (overview about ongoing projects both free and commercial). Some words about FUD and Linux Advocacy will also be said.
ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Rolf Haberrecker graduated from the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nürnberg in 1996 in Computational Linguistics. The same year he joined SuSE GmbH, a major Linux distributor, in Nürnberg. However, the first contact with the UNIX operating system took place in 1987. Besides other things he is now managing the business partner program of SuSE.
