Werner Vogels

Werner Vogels is a Research Scientist in the Department of Computer Science at Cornell University. He is one of the principal investigators in the reliable distributed systems group, which has build systems such as Isis, Horus and Ensemble, and he is one of the main architects of the U-Net high-performance communication architecture. His research targets high-availability in distributed systems, with a particular focus on enterprise cluster systems. Next to this Werner is involved in a number of other research projects, ranging from programming cluster interconnects to new file systems and from protocol engineering to computing with mobile devices. Most of his research is focussed on Windows NT, making him one of the most prominent researchers in that area. He is the chair of the 1999 Usenix Windows NT Symposium. He is co-founder and vice-president of Reliable Network Solutions, Inc., which specializes in building solutions for very large-scale reliable distributed systems.
