Control Your Own Data With ownCloud 9

Speaker: Roeland Douma

Abstract

ownCloud provides what the name implies: an AGPL-licensed file sync & share server written in PHP and with clients for most mobile devices and a powerful extension system. You run it on your own server or look for one of our providers. With over 8 million users and hundreds of developers, we're by far the biggest game in town when it comes to open source file sync & share tech.

ownCloud is being used by many large corporations, universities, and institutions and has achieved some impressive scalability feats. This is in part thanks to its very modular nature which makes it more than a bit of an application platform. Even core functionality like versioning, encryption, sharing and storage are implemented as apps and thus pluggable.

ownCloud 9.0 introduces new collaboration-, scalability-, and federation-related improvements. We'll introduce ownCloud, the improvements in 9.0 and explain why ownCloud is so popular ranging from home to big corporate applications.
